Trade Burnout, Stress & Chaos for a Joyfully Aligned Life & Career

Creative Process

I once knew a woman who was very driven to succeed in her network marketing business. She decided to devote the next three years of her life to her success. She worked all hours of the day and night and insisted her team do the same. If her team didn’t attend sales meetings until 3am, she’d refuse to support them anymore. She decided she would put everything but her business pursuits on hold for three years. Then she’d retire. She was goal driven and focused, and she knew she would succeed.

Her husband and her children took a backseat to her goal of success. She was excessively hard on her team and even began cutting corners and violating ethics to ensure she was a top performer (or appeared to be). By the end of the three years, she was divorced, had lost custody of her children, and lost her business due to unethical dealings. In fact, her name was completely blotted out of the company with which she had worked.

In my mind, she became the poster child for what it means to create one’s life without checking in with God. She became the supreme example of trying to create abundance on the competitive plain. She constantly “pushed the rope,” and that rope transformed into a noose.

I believe as children of THE CREATOR, made in His image, we are born creators. We can create our lives on our own, pursuing selfish, self-gratifying and vain ambition. We can do this by stepping on others, forcing our will onto others, or by manipulating and controlling (aka force).

Or we can amble through life without any goals or objectives. As the Cheshire Cat told Alice, “If you don’t know where you’re going, any road’ll take you there.” And “there” isn’t always the best location.

Most people choose something between these two extremes.

I am an advocate of having goals and dreams, but I believe for best results, we co-create them with God. We step out of the competitive plain onto the creative plain. We check in with God to make sure the aspirations we set for ourselves are in alignment with our highest purpose and soul fulfillment.

Then we

- set clear intentions,
- ask for assistance,
- take inspired action,
- operate from gratitude, and
- allow the co-creation process to take place.

What do I mean by co-creation? I believe nature is friendly to your plans when you operate from your highest purpose. Angels, Spirit and the intelligent matter of the universe line up on your team to help you achieve your objectives. The right people will be introduced to you at the perfect time. The optimal resources will be made available to you. The appropriate doors will open for you.

But you must be willing to set a clear intention, ask, listen for a confirmation that you’re on path, and take inspired action. Action is critical. As Wallace Wattles wrote in 1910: “By faith the thing you want is brought to you and by action you receive it.” Do all you know to do. Reach toward God’s reaching, but never force, manipulate or control.

If you are honest with yourself, if you have integrity, what you want is what God wants for you. The powers of heaven are on your side.

But remember the powers of heaven can only be activated upon the principles of righteousness. When we undertake to cover our mistakes, to gratify our pride, our vain ambition, or to exercise control or dominion or compulsion upon other people or upon the elements of the universe, in any degree of unrighteousness, the heavens withdraw themselves; the Spirit of the Lord is grieved. And when it is withdrawn, we are left to ourselves – to push that rope.

Stop back by for my next entry… I’ll be talking about what to do when things don’t fall into place, when doors seem to slam in your face when you feel certain God told you to travel the path you’re traveling.

Many of us avoid putting our hearts and souls into following our dreams because we’re scared of disappointment. We’re afraid our hopes will be dashed or we’ll let ourselves down. Perhaps we’re worried about what other people will think.

joshelisehands2As I’ve re-entered the dating world, I’ve learned something important about life that applies to following your dreams.

I’m trying to be different than I used to be in a romantic relationship. I’m focusing on showing up fully as myself, opening my heart, being willing to be vulnerable and fully honest.  I’m trying to express how I feel, even when that might risk the relationship ending.

There is a risk involved when you do this. Your heart can get broken.

Yet, I realize now that much of the way I showed up in my marriage was about protecting my heart and expecting so little that I couldn’t be disappointed. I’m determined not to do that again. Did this half-hearted, self-protecting stance lead to the very thing I was trying to avoid? Perhaps. It certainly didn’t help.

I think this fear of being hurt in relationships is akin to the fear of disappointment many of us experience in goal-setting. We’re afraid of setting our hearts on something, only to suffer disappointment, self-judgment or ridicule. Defeat can be heart-breaking. So we go about our goal-setting in a half-committed way because we want to protect our hearts.

One of the realizations that came to me as I entered a new relationship was that I could get hurt. I was operating a bit out of fear, holding back because my heart could get broken.

Then, one day I came to this realization that I’d passed the point of no return. If this relationship didn’t work out, I was going to be hurt – no doubt about it. Just admitting that to myself, relieved something that allowed me to take those barriers off my heart and risk showing up fully as myself. Yes, I could get hurt, but I was going to get hurt anyway if it didn’t work out. And a case could be made that the only hope the relationship has is for me to show up fully.

If you go through your whole life and you know you could have created the life you wanted, but you didn’t try, or only half-tried, you’re going to be hurt. Whether you abdicate your ability to create or whether you give it your all and it doesn’t pan out, you’re going to get hurt. Yet, odds are, if you give it your all, you will get something. I believe God grants us according to our desires. And if we throw our hearts and souls behind our desires and do what we can, we will get something good in the end.

But if you don’t show up fully because you’re afraid of failure or being hurt, you’re destined to fail and you’re destined for disappointment.

So give it your all! Throw yourself 100% into your dreams. It’s the only way you can even hope to achieve them. And in the end you will know that you gave it your best shot, that you gave it your all. That alone, builds self-worth and shapes you into a person of character.

The old saying goes, “You’ve made your bed, now you have to lie in it.” Is that really true? When we make certain choices, do we just have to suffer the consequences? Perhaps we do for a while, but do we have to keep on suffering from them or can we create a new life?

Here are my thoughts on the subject…

Why is it that we do the same things over and over and expect to get different results? Why is it we settle for less than we desire and expect to be happy?

Are we so afraid of disappointment? Are we that concerned about what other people are going to think if we don’t succeed that we don’t even try? Or is it simply a lack of clarity?

In this video, I share with you a simple exercise that is so powerful it could lead you to the life of your dreams. You just need to answer one simple question with thought, feeling and honesty to transform your world…

I hope you’ll join me for my “How to Create Your Own Amazing Life” Workshop.

The second rule for creating your own amazing life is to Dream BIG! Small plans have no magic to stir your soul. They have no ability to engage your enthusiasm or keep you moving forward. In this video I share my story of the power of a big dream and how you can harness it to create the life of your dreams.

Your Big WHY can’t be someone else’s why… it has to be your own. You have to be true to you and what you really want out of life. It can’t be a “should” that’s placed upon you by other people, society, etc.

A lot of times we set monetary goals, for example, because we think we’re “supposed to.” There’s so much pressure from society to excel financially… that’s the standard measure of success, but some of us aren’t even wired to care about that. We’re driven by something completely different. If you set a money “why” when you’re not even driven by money, it will have no magic to stir your soul and keep you moving forward. Find your own WHY. You can’t borrow someone else’s.

So what’s your big why? Do you know it?

I love this quote from Julie Ann Turner’s book, “Genesis of Genius:”

I believe each of us reaches a turning point in life — a crossroad of choice when the day comes, as the writer Anais Nin so beautifully describes it, ‘when the risk to remain tight in the bud is more painful than the risk it takes to blossom.’

That moment we realize that what has come before, no matter how comfortable it may be, can no longer serve our highest self, and that, in order to expand into our highest potential we must consciously choose the path of What Can Be … The quest of discovery begins.”

And as my friend Dr. Roger Moczygemba of myQuickdoc.com noted,

The discomfort we feel before we feel the need to break out of the bud will never happen if we are not continuously striving to improve.”

If we’re on a path of self-improvement, which most entrepreneurs are, we will eventually come to that point when we realize we’ve stayed inside the bud for too long. And that shift from “What Is” to “What Can Be” is the key, as Julie Ann Turner talks about in her book.

Before and After MarnieFor me, that shift from feeling like I was stuck with “What Is” to focusing on “What Can Be” happened on a ride home from a family vacation to the beach two years ago. For nearly a decade I was unhappy in my marriage, but I thought I had to settle for what was. Not until I finally realized and owned the fact that I was the creator of my own life and could choose a different relationship dynamic, did I finally get a clear picture of what I DID want. You see, it’s easy to moan and groan about what’s not working, it’s an entirely different thing to get clear on what you want INSTEAD!

And that’s what I did — I got incredibly clear on the relationship I DID want. I was fully open to my existing marriage being this. I thought perhaps that if I traveled the path of self-improvement, became the person I envisioned, that my marriage would shift along with it. But that was not to be. Instead, there came a time when it was clearly evident that for the good of everyone I had to let it go.

During that pivotal drive back from the beach, I shifted my mental gaze from “What Is” to “What Can Be.” As a result, I began creating the life of my dreams. I’m happier, healthier, 40 pounds lighter, and loving the relationships I’m creating. What People Are Saying
avatar"I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Marnie Pehrson over the last several years; first as members of the same Mastermind, then we (and several other women marketers) hosted a live event together. After that, I participated as an author in one of Marnie’s collaborative book projects, plus she has been a speaker on several of my telesummit events.

Throughout all of those experiences, Marnie has been unfailingly warm, kind, generous, giving and extremely knowledgeable…in short, an absolute pleasure to work with…but the most amazing quality Marnie has is her ability to rapidly take an idea and put it into action.

If you are looking for an incredibly smart, successful mentor to help you get your light into the world, then look no further, because Marnie’s your gal!"
